Taking place after the events of 2016's Suicide Squad and 2020's Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad sees Harley Quinn, Rick Flag and Captain Boomerang return alongside other villains recruited by Amanda Waller to take down Jotunheim, a Nazi-era prison and laboratory located on the South American island of Corto Maltese. Along the way, the team also has a run-in with Starro, a telepathic alien starfish found by American astronauts that wants to exact revenge on the world after years of torture and experimentation.

The Suicide Squad Reviews and Release

Only a few hours after its release on HBO Max and in theaters, The Suicide Squad is already being called one of DC's better outings since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy. Currently boasting a 96 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, people are singing the film's praises as one of the better comic book movies in recent years, though it's struggling at the box office, most likely as a result of the Delta variant of COVID-19 spreading and its simultaneous release on HBO Max.

The Suicide Squad Easter Eggs and References

As is par the course with any superhero movie, speculation ran rampant about how The Suicide Squad will continue the story of the DCEU. And, of course, given the source material, it was safe to assume that a few members of Task Force X won't make it out alive. That ends up being the case, but, even if your favorite character met an untimely end, the film was still chock full of Easter eggs to sink your teeth into, including references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other DC villains.
